What is Allergy and how does it differ from intolerance?

Allergies are abnormal reactions of the immune system that occur in response to otherwise harmless substances. Intolerances can mimic allergies (sometimes referred to as pseudo-allergy) but it does not involve the immune system.

What do I need to prepare for the test?

Customers must present their identity cards and on the appointment day. Test results may be affected if individuals have already used particular steroid / Immunosuppressant, or might be affected if individuals have been avoiding particular foods. Do I need a doctor’s prescription to have the allergy test done?

In general, any individual can reserve and order this test for themselves. A doctor’s prescription is not required.

Can my child do the test?

Yes, but we recommend child age of 2 years old or above to do the test.

Can I have this test done if I am taking Chinese or Western medicine?

Please consult your medical practitioner or our staffs if you have any questions concerning taking your medicine. In general, the major concern is Immunosuppressant /steroidal drugs, because it can suppress the immune system, and thus may reduce the antibodies levels and results might be affected. Thus, it is advisable to stop taking the Immunosuppressant /steroidal drug for at least 4 weeks before taking the test. Tropical steroid is not affecting the test results in normal circumstance.

How long will it take for me to get results?

For an allergy blood test, you can receive the results within 4-7 days and with medical professional to interpret.

If the antibody levels for milk is ELEVATED, does this mean that I am lactose intolerant?

No. Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest lactose, the major sugar found in milk, and is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme lactase. ApexHealth IgG Food Sensitivity Screening Test detects IgG-mediated food sensitivity caused by the specific proteins found in milk, but does not detect the lactase enzyme and, therefore, cannot diagnose lactose intolerance.

Do I need to be cautious when removing a food group from my diet?

Yes, so you should be careful when introducing a new dietary regime. We can arrange follow-up dietary advice from qualified professionals to anyone who has taken the allergy test.
