In general, traditional invasive sample collection methods, such as chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis, has certain risks for both the mother and the fetus, and they require pregnancy to be at least 10 weeks along before they can be performed.
The non-invasive prenatal DNA paternity testing offered by ApexHealth, on the other side, can be done earliest as 7 weeks into the pregnancy. The testing is conducted using a blood sample from the pregnant mother and a DNA sample from the alleged father, eliminating the need for invasive procedures. Test results is shortened to 6-8 business days.
Pregnant woman’s specimen
As early as the 7th of gestational week of pregnancy. Blood will be drawn from the mother to analyse cell-free fetal DNA.
Remark: This DNA test may not be suitable for pregnant women who have previously received a blood transfusion, organ transplant, immunotherapy, or are carrying a pregnancy through surrogacy.
Alleged father’s specimen
If a buccal swab is used, the sample is collected by gently rubbing a cotton swab on the inside of the cheek. This is a simple, painless and non-invasive sample collection procedure.
You may choose to have the alleged father’s sample collected on-site by our laboratory medical technician, or collect the sample from the alleged father yourself. We will provide a complete sample collection guide to assist you throughout the process.
Remark: Other special specimen types such as hair, nails and beard stubble, may also be accepted.

General Questions
Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Testing (NIPPT) is a non-invasive genetic test suitable for early pregnancy. Unlike traditional invasive procedures such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS), NIPPT does not require entering the uterus and does not affect the fetus, helping to protect both mother and baby.
During pregnancy, cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA) is released into the mother’s bloodstream. The test requires a maternal blood sample, from which fetal DNA fragments are analysed and compared with the alleged father’s DNA sample to establish biological paternity with high accuracy.
No Procedure-Related Miscarriage Risk
Unlike amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling, which are invasive procedures and may carry a miscarriage risk, NIPPT only requires a 10–20 mL maternal blood draw. The procedure is similar to a routine blood test and does not involve entering the uterus.
Available From 7 Weeks of Pregnancy
NIPPT can be performed from 7 completed weeks of pregnancy, allowing earlier testing than many traditional prenatal diagnostic procedures.
High Accuracy
For pregnancies of 7 weeks or above that meet the laboratory’s testing requirements, the test can achieve a probability of paternity of over 99.99% when the alleged father is included.
The test requires:
- A 10 mL blood sample from the pregnant mother.
- At least one DNA sample from the alleged father. The alleged father may provide a buccal swab or blood sample. Certain special sample types may also be accepted.

Yes. The alleged father may collect a sample overseas, such as a buccal swab or an accepted special specimen(s), and arrange for it to be delivered to our laboratory for comparative analysis.
Please contact us before arranging overseas sample collection to ensure that the sample collection, packaging and delivery requirements are met.

Step 1: Book a Sample Collection Appointment
After confirming your appointment, please visit our laboratory for sample collection. ApexHealth provides private sample-collection rooms, and the entire process usually takes approximately 20 minutes.
Step 2: Pre-Test Consultation and Assessment
Before sample collection, our professional team will conduct an initial assessment. We will confirm that the pregnancy has reached at least 7 completed weeks and assess whether the fetal cell-free DNA level is likely to meet testing requirements.
Step 3: Sample Collection
The pregnant mother will provide a 10mL venous blood sample. The alleged father will provide a DNA sample, most commonly through a buccal swab collected by gently rubbing a cotton swab against the inside of the cheek.
Blood samples, hair with follicles, nail clippings and other special samples may also be considered, subject to laboratory assessment.
Step 4: Laboratory Analysis
The samples will undergo high-precision comparative DNA analysis. Under normal circumstances, the turnaround time is approximately 6–8 working days. An expedited service may be available at an additional charge.
Step 5: Receiving Your Report
Once testing is complete, results will be delivered securely. To protect privacy, customers may choose to receive the report by encrypted email or collect a printed report in person at our centre.
- Before blood collection, please avoid consuming large amounts of high-fat food or alcohol.
- If the pregnant mother has received a blood transfusion within the past six months, or has previously undergone an organ transplant or received donor tissue/cells, blood-based DNA testing may not be suitable. Please contact us for assessment before booking.
- Pregnant women who have recently received a blood transfusion or organ transplant may not be suitable for this DNA test.
- Pregnant women who are taking anticoagulant medication should consult their family doctor before undergoing blood collection.
- Before collecting a buccal swab, the alleged father should not eat, drink anything other than water, or brush their teeth for at least one hour beforehand.
- Purchased services are valid for two months from the date of payment confirmation. Testing must be completed within this period; expired services will not be valid.
- Buccal swabs and approved special samples may be collected at home and delivered to our testing centre. If a blood sample is selected for the alleged father, please call our at (852) 3504 2738 to arrange an appointment with our professional team.
